Univ.-Doz. Dr. Erwin A. Schmidl

Born in Vienna in 1956. Studies in history, ethnology and art history at Vienna University. 1981 Dr. phil. 2001 senior lecturer for Modern History and Contemporary History (University of Innsbruck). Since 1981 in various functions at the Austrian Ministry of National Defence. Currently head of the Department of Contemporary History at the Institute for Strategy and Security Policy of the National Defence Academy in Vienna. Numerous publications, lectures and exhibitions on the military and political history particularly of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Teaching courses at the Universities of Innsbruck, Vienna and Pretoria, teaching courses and supervision of diploma and Ph.D students at the Universities of Innsbruck, Graz and Vienna since 1996. President of the Austrian Society for Heereskunde and General Secretary of the Austrian Association of Historians.
