Dr. Jürgen Kraus
Dr. phil. and historian, born in 1951. After his military service he studied in Münster, Westphalia where he wrote his doctorate on the early-modern military history of Imperial Augsburg. He has since then been in charge of photographic and documentary archives at the Bayerisches Armeemuseum as well as taking care of the preservation of their uniform and flag collections. The author of several works on military history including uniforms, steel helmets, the flags of Augsburg, the Bavarian military and uniforms of the German Reichswehr, he has also published numerous essays in various periodicals. Years of research into the field-grey uniform of World War One culminated in the publication of a two-volume work on the subject in 1999. He is at present focusing on the formations of the German army in the First World War. For some years he has been on the board of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Heereskunde.
